How to Check Your Marks and Request a Remark

After GCSE Results Day, students should check the marks for every subject and compare them with the relevant grade boundaries. If you are only a few marks away from the next grade, it may be worth asking your school about a Review of Marking, commonly called a remark.

For example, if you achieved a Grade 5 but were only 1–2 marks away from a Grade 6, speak to your school or exams officer.

Don’t Assume Your School Will Check

Not all schools automatically check every student’s marks or request reviews.

How to Check Your GCSE Marks and Request a Remark

1. Check your mark for every GCSE subject and compare it with the relevant exam board’s GCSE 2026 grade boundaries using  links below:
   
   AQA - Edexcel - OCR  - WJEC

2. Identify subjects where you are close to the next grade.

3. Contact your school quickly, as many schools set internal deadlines for remark requests in mid-September, ahead of the exam board deadline.

Do GCSE Grades Actually Change?

Yes. Official Ofqual figures for GCSEs in summer 2025 show:

• 243,150 GCSE grades were challenged, 58,725 grades changed, 24.1% increased, Less than 0.1% decreased

How Much Does a Remark Cost?

A Review of Marking typically costs around £50 per paper, although fees vary by exam board. Some schools may cover the cost, while others may ask parents to pay.
